Madagascar cyclone kills 11, causes significant flooding

At least 11 people were reported killed after a cyclone made landfall in northern Madagascar.

At least 11 people were reported killed after a cyclone made landfall into northern Madagascar.

Media in the country says six people drowned, and five others lost their lives by collapsing houses or falling trees.

Cyclone Gamane was projected to bypass the Indian Ocean Island, but it changed course, leaving hundreds of homes wrecked.

It is still moving with average winds of 150 km per hour and gusts of 200 km per hour.

Aerial footage showed flooded settlements, as people tried to rescue residents from their homes.

The deadly cyclone crossed the northeast of Madagascar over a 48-hour period - displacing more than 15,000 people.

 The National Bureau of Risk and Disaster Management said there people are still missing.
