According to reports, Israeli troops ordered medics to move all patients into an older part of the hospital. The facility, which has been under siege for 25 days, hosts 300 doctors and nurses, over 400 patients, and thousands of displaced people.

Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Daniel Hagari said the army was conducting a precise and limited operation to locate and return the bodies of hostages.

He said the operation was based on credible intelligence from a number of sources.

WHO warns of catastrophe

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has warned of a catastrophe if Israel launches a ground assault in Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip.

At the same time, the International Committee of the Red Cross said there was a lack of food, drinking water, sanitation, health care, and safety in Rafah.

Elsewhere, five people were killed and six others hurt in two Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon's southern border region.

The Lebanon-Israel border has been witnessing increased friction since the Gaza conflict erupted late last year.
