Central American migrants stuck at Mexico/US border

Thousands of Central American migrants who`ve travelled all the way to the Mexican/US Border in the hopes of an El Dorado, are facing bitter so far but so near disappointment with little hope of asylum.

By James Blears

More than a thousand have scaled the Border fence and the vast majority have been caught and detained by the Border Patrol and a bolstering US taskforce which was sent there and is waiting for them... and for more waves on their way. A thousand more, many of whom have fallen ill from the rigors of their forty day plus trek, have given up the ghost and gone home, many volunteering to be deported because it means safe passage transportation back from whence they came, which is far away and far from safe. Several thousand still remain in Tijuana.

Mexican Authorities say there are more than ten thousand job vacancies in the State of Baja California, but the wage packets don`t compare favorably with the United States.

Talks continue between the new Mexican Administration and the US Government about the Central American migrant caravans issue. One US proposal, is for migrants to stay in Mexico until their asylum claims are considered and adjudged. The Mexican proposal is to issue temporary visas. But no decisions on those lines have yet been agreed.
