Guatemala opens embassy in Jerusalem

Guatemala has opened its embassy in Jerusalem, following in the footsteps of the United States.

The inauguration of the new Guatemalan embassy in Jerusalem, which was attended by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Guatemalen, President Jimmy Morales, comes amid outrage over the Israeli army’s killing of 62 Palestinian s who were protesting in the Gaza strip on Monday which turned out to be the deadliest day of cross-border violence in Gaza in years.

More than 2,700 were wounded, many seriously.

The clashes erupted after the opening of the new United States Embassy in Jerusalem. The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas described the shootings as being "massacres." 

Morales said that Guatemala was sending a message of love, peace and fraternity to Israel amid praise from Netanyahu.
