Monsignor Marcel Diouf, chargé d'affaires of the Nunciature in Nicaragua’s capital Managua, has moved to Costa Rica. The diplomatic office was closed at the request of the Nicaraguan government.

Monsignor Marcel Mbaye Diouf, the Vatican’s chargé d’affaires of Nicaragua‘s Apostolic Nunciature, left the nation on 17 March and moved to Costa Rica.

The closure of the Holy See’s Diplomatic office in Managua took place following a request by the Nicaraguan government, dated 10 March 2023.

As established by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the custody of the Apostolic Nunciature and its assets was entrusted to the Italian Republic. Before his departure, Mgr Diouf was greeted by diplomatic representatives of the European Union, Germany, France and Italy accredited to Nicaragua.
