Bishop Eusebius Alfred Nzigilwa takes over from Archbishop Gervas John Nyaisonga who is now the Archbishop of Mbeya in Tanzania.
Auxiliary Bishop since 2010
Bishop Nzigilwa, of the clergy of Dar-es-Salaam, has been the auxiliary Bishop Dar-es-Salaam and Titular Bishop of Mozotcori since 28 January 2010.
According to the Tanzania Episcopal Conference, the Diocese of Mpanda has an area or Area 46,346 Square Kilometers and a population of 609,327 of whom 329,622 are Catholics.
Born on 14 August 1966, in the town of Mwanza, Tanzania, Bishop Nzigilwa attended secondary school at St. Peter's Junior Seminary in Morogoro. After school and a year of military service, he entered the major seminary in 1988. He was ordained a priest on 23 June 1995 for the Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam.
As a priest, he held several pastoral appointments before pursuing studies at the University of Dar-es-Salaam, where he awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
