Vatican heads meet to discuss phase-2 of pandemic

An extraordinary meeting takes place in the Vatican in the presence of Vatican authorities to reflect on phase-2 of the Covid-19 emergency.

Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, chaired an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday morning. On the agenda was the plan for the second phase of the Covid-19 crisis response, scheduled to begin on 4 May next. This date coincides with the loosening of restrictions regulated by the Italian state. 

A statement released by the Holy See Press Office also said the meeting took place in the Old Synod Hall in the presence of the heads of Vatican Dicasteries and other institutions.

During the meeting, the statement added, participants highlighted the Holy See’s effort to deal with the crisis in a sustainable way.

Furthermore, it continued, the decision was taken to gradually reinstate ordinary services, while continuing to observe precautions to curb the spread of the virus, while ensuring service to the Holy Father and the Universal Church.
