Holy See says there is no imminent agreement with China

The head of the Holy See press office responded to journalists questions about reports of an agreement regarding the appointment of bishops for the Catholic Church in China

The head of the Holy See Press office has denied media reports that the Vatican is on the verge of signing an agreement regarding the status of the Catholic Church in China.

Replying to journalists’ questions on Thursday, Greg Burke said there is no “imminent” agreement between the Holy See and the Peoples Republic of China.

He added that Pope Francis remains in “constant contact” with his advisers on the situation of the Church in China and follows the progress that is taking place in dialogue between the two sides.
