Pope’s visit to Ireland – a visual roundup

Pope Francis has just completed his 24th apostolic visit outside Italy, which took him to Ireland, August 25-26. We bring you glimpses of this 2-day visit.

Pope Francis visited Ireland this weekend on the occasion of the Catholic Church’s 9th  World Meeting of Families (WMOF) which took place in Dublin, August 21-26.   He also flew west to County Mayo on day 2 to visit the national Marian Shrine of Knock.

The theme of the WMOF was on , “The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World”.  The highlights of the 5-day event was the Festival of Families Saturday evening at Croke Park Stadium  and the concluding Holy Mass on Sunday at Phoenix Park.

The Holy Father also condemned the abuse of children and adults by members of the Catholic Church in Ireland, and met and listened to 8 of the abuse victims.
