Geneva’s Palaexpo hosting the Pope’s Mass for Swiss Catholics

Pope Francis’s apostolic visit to Geneva is primarily an “ecumenical pilgrimage” but is also a pastoral visit to the Catholic faithful of Switzerland.

Pope Francis who is on a visit to Geneva on June 21 for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), will celebrate Holy Mass in the evening for the Catholics of Switzerland at Geneva’s Palaexpo. 

Palexpo, adjacent to Geneva Cointrin Inernational Airport, is a convention center with 7 halls and 102,000 square metres of exhibition space.  Palexpo hosts a variety of convention and sporting events, including the Geneva Motor Show  and the 2014 Davis Cup semifinals between Switzerland and Italy. 

Some 40,000 are expected to attend the Mass, including from nearby France. 

Mario Galgano of Vatican News had been to Palaexpo where the final touches were being given ahead of the Pope's Thursday eveing Mass.
