Christmas Season 2021: Rejoice in Christ’s birth – Archbishop Farrell

The birth of Jesus is the most powerful sign and message of hope in a world darkened by the shadows of fear and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic. We bring you the voices of religious leaders and heads of Christian charitable organizations as they look to a future in which “No one is saved alone.”

In his Christmas Message, Archbishop Dermot Farrell of Dublin in Ireland, reflects on a God who is full of surprises and invites the faithful to reach out to those in need at Christmas and in this continuing pandemic.

“Surprise is the order of the day when God is among us. Today allow yourself to be surprised by God.”

Listen to Archbishop Farrell

The Archbishop says that as we contemplate the manger we realise “that our own journey to God is full of surprises."

“We continue to act non-violently in his name demanding an end to exclusion, violence and injustice."

Archbishop Farrell highlights that in the face of the current Covid-19 crisis, the Church continues to reach out to those who are suffering at this time.

“God calls us to be close to our suffering brothers and sisters,” he says.
