Christians in the United Kingdom are encouraged to participate in a “Share the Light” Christmas campaign starting on 21 December.

In a gesture aimed at promoting the message of hope and light at the heart of Christmas, Christian Publishing and Outreach (CPO) has launched a “Share the Light” campaign as this year, marked with challenging times, approaches its end.

On 21 December, CPO is encouraging Christians of all denominations in the UK to display a light in their windows and continue to light it until Christmas Day “to celebrate and thank those who have been lights to our nation this year and support those who have suffered physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.”

Celebrating Christmas differently

This Christmas “will be different from every other that I have known in my generation,” explained Stew Smith, CPO chief creative officer.

Even though Church buildings are currently closed in some places, “we wanted to create a free resource that Christians and Churches could use to share the same message of hope among their communities.”

CPO notes that 21 December was chosen because it is the shortest and darkest day of the year in the UK.

Lighting up the streets

“Our hope,” continued Smith, “is to see streets, neighborhoods and communities lit up this Christmas like we have never seen before.”

“Those lights will represent not only hope for those who are struggling but gratitude for all those who have worked so hard to help others this year,” he added.

The “Share the Light” campaign also encourages Christians to share a video released for the campaign among their friends and family.

More information on the video and the “Share the Light” campaign can be obtained from the CPO website

CPO is a charity formed 60 years ago to serve the Church in the field of communication. It provides Christian communicators with resources to enable them to share the message of Jesus effectively.
