Archb. of Dhaka’s grief for fire in which dozens have been killed

The Cardinal Archbishop of Dhaka in Bangladesh has expressed his sorrow for the fire in the old part of the city of Dhaka in which at least 67 people have died.

Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, Archbishop of Dhaka, expressed his sorrow for the tragedy and said he is praying for all those affected after having learnt of a devastating fire that has killed dozens of people.  

The blaze reportedly broke out at night in a residential building that had flammable material stored on the ground floor. It is not yet clear what started the fire.

Speaking to Vatican News on the sidelines of the Meeting on “The Protection of Minors in the Church” taking place in the Vatican, Cardinal D’Rozario said “I’m really shocked to hear of this accident in which so many people have lost their lives”.

The Cardinal expressed his heartfelt sympathy and solidarity for all those affected, especially for the families of those who have died.

“I am with the people who are suffering now” he said.

D’Rozario said he is praying for the souls of the departed, and he expressed his gratitude for having been informed of the tragedy as he attends the meeting in Rome.
