COVID-19 pandemic should not make us lose our faith

Bishop Kussala has said that notwithstanding the current Coronavirus pandemic, God’s assurances to his people are not made in a “vacuum.” The COVID-19 pandemic should not “shake us to the point of losing faith or losing hope. We are encouraged (as Christians) to continue standing firm and strong knowing that Our Saviour has assured (to always be with) us,” said Bishop Kussala.

Bishop Kussala made the remarks in the Tombura Yambio diocesan bulletin, “Ruru Gene.”

Gestures grounded in God

Difficult as it is, the Coronavirus pandemic could be used as an opportunity for our spiritual growth and renewal.

“We need to renew this faith in ourselves first of all. That’s why I call it an opportunity for us to be in touch with ourselves, with our God, with our creator, and that conviction itself helps us in our behaviour. When we talk to people, it will be from the strength and conviction that we believe in a God who has given us life in abundance. When we reach out to others, our gestures will be grounded in God.

God gives us life in abundance

Barani Kussala further said he was aware that many people, in the diocese and country, were grieving the loss of loved ones and that many businesses were registering huge losses as a consequence of COVID-19. 

“We still need to have strong faith in God because, amid such storms of life, God has never abandoned us. He will never abandon us. Let us not lose hope in Him who has life in abundance. Let us not despair or live in self-pity because that is for people who do not believe in God. Let us go out there with words that encourage everyone to know that we come from a God who gives life in abundance,” said Bishop Kussala.
