The annual peace prayers are an annual event promoted by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia to pray for peace, for the deceased, their families and all those affected in the conflicts that have taken place in Ethiopia.

True peace comes from Christ

Cardinal Berhaneyesus Souraphiel, CM, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Addis Ababa and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia (CBCE) told the faithful during Holy Mass at Holy Saviour Parish that true peace comes from Christ. He encouraged those gathered to ask the Lord to grant peace to the nation. The Cardinal stressed that the situation in Ethiopia needs to be accompanied by daily prayer. He further requested all the clergy, religious men and women and all the Catholic faithful and people of goodwill to continue praying for peace and reconciliation in the country.

Pope Francis Francis has expressed his closeness to the people of Ethiopia

The Bishops also called on all Catholics living in Ethiopia and abroad, Catholic parishes, chapels, and convents to always pray for peace on this day in solidarity with all the victims of social unrest in the past few years and recently.

It is to be recalled that Holy Father, Pope Francis, recently demonstrated his solidarity with the people of Ethiopia and invited Catholics worldwide to pray for Ethiopia.

On 3 November, during the Angelus in St. Peter Square, Pope Francis asked for prayers for Christians in Ethiopia who have been targeted in ongoing ethnic clashes that have left several people dead.
