This morning, Saturday 20 April 2024, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Prime Minister of Belize, His Excellency Mr. John Briceño, was received in audience by His Holiness Pope Francis. He subsequently met with His Excellency Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

During the cordial discussions which took place at the Secretariat of State, satisfaction was expressed for the good relations between Belize and the Holy See. The parties focused in particular on the commitment of the Holy Church in the fields of education and care for migrants. 

Attention then turned to some of the country’s current socio-political issues, emphasizing the contribution that the Catholic Church and Christian values, present in Belizean society, can offer for the common good of the population.
